NYC Hotel Week Offers Winter Lodging Discounts
The promotion includes more than 120 NYC hotels across multiple boroughs
Location: New York City
Perfect For: Visitors and locals alike looking for a NYC hospitality experience at a discounted price
Following the excitement of the holidays and the glamour of New Year’s Eve, the beginning of a new year can feel a bit anticlimactic. Likewise, January and February are rarely seen as peak travel months. But a winter travel promotion offers a compelling reason to book a trip or even a staycation in the form of NYC Hotel Week, which offers discounted rates on luxury and boutique hotels alike across New York City. The initiative, spearheaded by NYC Tourism + Conventions, requires “a lot of planning, a lot of recruiting, as you can imagine,” Tiffany Townsend, EVP, Global Communications at NYC Tourism + Conventions, tells A HOTEL PODCAST.
“The program is now in its fourth year,” Townsend shares. “It started in 2022, and we work across, at this point, over 100 hotels. I think we're at 120 for this year that are part of the program.”
The promotion runs across neighborhoods ranging from the East Village to Williamsburg to The Rockaways and more, with participating hotels offering 25% off room rates from January 2nd through February 9th. With lodging options across three boroughs (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens), Townsend sees NYC Hotel Week as an opportunity for visitors to explore a wider range of the city as they consider their options when planning their trip.
“So we really want people to explore (New York City hotels) as options, as experiences for when they're booking their trips because they're located in great neighborhoods,” Townsend confirms. “We want you to go to, whether it's Flushing or Long Island City or Williamsburg or Downtown Brooklyn or Brooklyn Heights. There's just a lot of…selection. So I think that that's always what's most exciting to us is that there's a lot of selection. There's a lot of different types of experiences.”
Beyond the price perks for travelers, NYC Hotel Week is also designed to benefit the city’s hotel and hospitality operators during a typically quieter season for tourism and bookings, as Townsend explains.
“(Hotel managers) understand the value of being a part of a program like this, and it's in January by design. So New York City doesn't have a ton of seasonality. Meaning, we don't have huge swings in different parts of the year in terms of when people come into the city and when they're staying. However, if there was a period like that, it would be sort of that January, February timeframe. We like to think of this as a really great opportunity to give travelers a really good value. So it's a great way to maximize your budget. And so that's why we have Hotel Week at the time of year that we do.”
“New York is a city of neighborhoods…and so we want people to see as much of that as possible.” - Tiffany Townsend
The program offers visitors a variety of lodging options, intended to provide every type of traveler with a unique NYC experience, “no matter what their budget or what their vibe is. What experience they're looking to have,” Townsend details.
“If you're a luxury traveler, you're going to have options. If you're more budget-focused or what you're looking for is a more business-focused hotel, you need to be in a certain part of town, you have that, too. So you have that on a regular day, but even within the confines of this particular program, you're really getting that, as well. So whatever your vibe is, whatever you're looking for, sort of that girl's trip. Maybe it's that couple's getaway. It's a family weekend. This program actually speaks to that because there are so many hotels participating.”
While the promotion includes a wide range of hotels, Townsend does have recommendations for those looking for an elevated stay during NYC Hotel Week. Though the EVP, Global Communications is quick to add she loves “all my children and my hotels equally.”

“So let's see. If I have to pick, I'm gonna start in Brooklyn and I'm gonna go to Williamsburg. And I'm gonna say, think about the Wythe Hotel,” Townsend offers. “It's a very…industrial chic hotel built in a former barrel factory that dates back to 1901. Meticulously converted, but has that sort of like historic industrial feel. It's Williamsburg. So it's cool. It's beyond cool. It's too cool, which I love.
”It's easy to get to where it's located. It's sandwiched right between both Manhattan and Queens and obviously in a really fun neighborhood. The hotel itself has 70 guest rooms. It's got meeting space. It's got event space. So really, if you're looking to do even like a private dinner as part of your experience, or you're just looking to get together with friends, it's really great. And the downstairs restaurant, Le Crocodile, has the most amazing chocolate mousse ever.”

Another stay Townsend recommends is neighborhood institution Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC.

“I think it may have been…kind of the hotel that was sort of a catalyst for what the Meatpacking District looks like today. So, that hotel was built in 2004 and then it actually underwent a pretty lengthy multi-year renovation, about $40 million dollars worth of renovation. So it really is, top to bottom, really now a beautiful, true luxury hotel. Spacious rooms, a few beautiful suites. It's got what's called…a Poliform-designed duplex penthouse, which has got amazing views. And if you know the Meatpacking District, you know that it's on the West Side. It's close to the river. So when you're on the rooftop, enjoying the pool, enjoying the bar, it kind of gives to the Hudson River, and who doesn't sort of love a rooftop and a water view, right? And so you've got, obviously, as a full service hotel, all the best amenities. Fitness center. I mentioned the rooftop pool. A great terrace. Also a great event space, but also really great culinary offerings, as well. And so it's really kind of an anchor for that neighborhood, which has changed a lot. And it's just also incredibly chic.”
