Perfect For: Anyone seeking an array of outdoor experiences paired with high end lodging.
Nature-focused hospitality operation Outbound Hotels is bringing indie artist Andrew Bird to their outdoor event grounds this September for the second annual installment of their Outbound Music Series.
The concerts find the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist performing at mountain escape Sierra Nevada Resort in Mammoth Lakes, CA on Saturday, September 16th and the western-influenced Virginian Lodge in Jackson Hole, WY on Saturday, September 30th. Tickets and overnight packages for both events are on sale now.
The shows take a cue from a trend that Mike Raspatello, live music professional and Co-Founder at outdoor experiential company Kinsfield, has noticed in recent years.
“You started to see that people were gravitating away from being smooshed up against each other at a major festival,” Raspatello reveals. “And they wanted those elevated experiences. They wanted to see those big artists next to 50 people as much as they wanted to see them next to 50,000.”

Founded in 2020, Outbound Hotels was launched with a focus on experiential outdoor offerings for guests, as the company’s Head of Marketing Bridget Russo tells A HOTEL PODCAST.
“There are really three trends that have been happening in the market that (were) the perfect moment for Outbound Hotels to exist,” Russo explains. “There's an increase in consumers wanting experiences over things. An increase in the interest in alternative lodging. So what does that mean? Glamping, cabins, Airbnb has an OMG category.
And then third, people wanting to be outside and looking for experience that kind of combined those three things. And it was the perfect moment for Outbound to really identify hotel properties that maybe in their heyday, they had some history to them, but needed some love. And really provide an experience that felt hyperlocal. That was still in the mix, not in the woods, but adjacent to outdoor adventure. Whether that's skiing, snowboarding, climbing, hiking. Really having that accessibility to nature.”

Currently Outbound has two locations—The Virginian Lodge and Sierra Nevada Resort—with more on the way, including Outbound Yosemite, close to Yosemite National Park, as well as Outbound Stowe in Vermont.
Also in the works is a barn-like live event space from Kinsfield in Parma, MI. The grounds will feature tiny home lodging for attendees who want to stay the night after attending a show. The hospitality and event concept will also allow for cannabis to be sold and consumed onsite.
